FIRST- Aid Awareness Programme in Schools and Residential areas

EDUCATE BHAARATH COMPOSED THE STUDY MATERIAL IN FIRST - AID AND BASIC EMERGENCY CARE

First- aid will minimize danger before one is taken to a Health care Centre . This may well mean the difference between life and death.

  • First aid will minimise danger before one is taken to Health Care Centre
  • We have only a few minutes in which to act to prevent permanent disability, brain damage or even death.
The Aim of First- Aid:
  • To preserve life
  • To promote recovery and health
  • To prevent worsening of the health conditions

First- aid is skilled assistance. After the Doctor takes charge, the First- aid’s responsibility ends. The First- aider should observe carefully, think clearly and act quickly. He should be calm, cool and confident . While waiting for the Doctor, he should give First- aid methodically.

In India, it is delay that kills heart attack victims. Indians are genetically pre-disposed to heart diseases, at least ten years earlier than those in the West. Delays in reaching the Hospital and not getting life saving procedures finally prove fatal. In India, people are unable to reach Hospital during emergencies.

On an average, it takes around 300 minutes to reach a Hospital in India- more than twice the response time in the developed nations. Few patients use an ambulance to reach the Hospital. Most, use a private or a public transport system.

The window of best opportunity (to save a patient) is the first 60 minutes. A delay of 300 minutes could mean severe damage to heart muscles, many times irreversible. There is an urgent need to educate people on First- aid importance.
